Católica Medical School announces the launch of the new Master's in Immunology and Vaccinology, a pioneering program in Portugal, starting on October 13, 2025. With a duration of 2 years, it is an innovative and unique training offering, being one of the few programs worldwide to provide formal education in Vaccinology.
This program, which combines a solid scientific foundation with practical application, is designed to prepare students to face global health challenges, including the prevention of infectious diseases and the development of new therapies.
Paulo Bettencourt, Professor and Coordinator of the Master's program, believes that "the COVID-19 pandemic revealed the urgent need for healthcare professionals trained in immunology and vaccinology. With the constant threat of emerging epidemics, there is an increasing demand for specialists in these fields. However, the rapid development of vaccines has been accompanied by vaccine hesitancy. Never in history has vaccination been so important and so contested!"
"Vaccines are one of humanity's greatest achievements, saving more lives than any other medical intervention, according to the World Health Organization. With the arrival of RNA vaccines, we have entered a new era of vaccinology, full of possibilities to expand the vaccine portfolio and improve the prevention, treatment, and control of infectious diseases. It is essential to increase trust and reduce hesitancy regarding vaccination by training professionals with the skills to reinforce vaccine safety. This is the moment to train specialists who will shape the future of immunology and global health. The new Master's will contribute to a healthier future," says Professor Maria João Amorim, Coordinator of the Curricular Unit, Research in Virology for the Future.
Applications are open until February 28, 2025.
