On this page, you will find the necessary requirements to apply to the Integrated Masters in Medicine and other information regarding the application steps.
Conditions for Application
The Application implies the reading of the Regulation for Access and Admission to the Integrated Master’s in Medicine of the Católica Medical School at Universidade Católica Portuguesa.

Nationality Requirements
- Not being a national citizen of an European Union (EU) Member State;
- Not being a direct descendant, spouse (husband/wife) or partner of a national of a EU Member State;
- Has not been legally residing in Portugal continuously for more than two years on the 1st January of the year in which he/she intends to enter higher education (himself/herself, his or her spouse or any of the parents with whom he or she lawfully resides);
- Not being a beneficiary of the status of equal rights and duties conferred in accordance with international treaties between the Portuguese State and the State of which they are nationals Students who are in emergency situation for humanitarian reasons (those may apply under the International Student Status, in accordance with article 7 of the REE I UCP, and should therefore contact the info@ucp.pt).
This regime should also be used by international students who are already students in a foreign higher education institution or who are holders of a higher education degree (national or foreign).
The admission at UCP of foreign citizens who are not covered by the provisions of the International Student Status must apply under the terms applicable to students of Portuguese nationality.
Access Qualifications
- Be the holder of a secondary school qualification or equivalent. (The applicants will need to require a Certification of Equivalence at Direção Geral de Educação here);
- Having one of the follow options:
- Successful realization of the required entrance exams, considered equivalent to the corresponding Portuguese national exams (The required entrance exams are considered equivalent to the corresponding Portuguese national exams in accordance to the Deliberation No. 491/2023).
Or
- Having sat the entrance exams - Portuguese national exams - set for the Integrated Master's Degree in Medicine.

The required entrance exams are considered equivalent to the corresponding Portuguese national exams in accordance to the Deliberation No. 491/2023.
A successful applicant must score a minimum of 140 (0 of 200) in each of the entrance exams, when translated to the Portuguese National grading system.
Note: The final exams are valid as entrance examinations in the year it is sat and in the two following years, according to the Deliberation No. 1233/2014 of the Comissão Nacional de Acesso ao Ensino Superior.
For the purposes of replacing Portuguese entrance tests, the following tests are not accepted in accordance with article 20.º-A of Decree-Law no. 296-A/98, of 25 September: Angola, Brazil, Bangladesh, Colombia and Sweden.

Minimum English level C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR), attested by one of the following certificates:
a) Cambridge English Exams - Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE) or Cambridge English: Proficiency (CPE) - minimum score of 180;
b) International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic - minimum score of 7;
c) Test of English as a Foreign Language, Internet-based Test (TOEFL iBT) - a minimum score of 94;
d) Satisfaction test carried out at Católica Languages & Translation - level C1 of CEFR;
e) Applicants who provide proof that they have English as their first language or have attended secondary school exclusively in English.
*Note: You should pay attention to the recommendations for the validity of the exams.- Group A - Interpersonal Communication
This prerequisite aims to prove the applicants' interpersonal communication skills.
The medical declaration, attained by completing the form in the following regulation, shall prove the absence of any mental, sensory or motor deficiency that seriously interferes with the functional capacity and interpersonal communication to the point of impairing the applicant's own learning or that of others.
The respective result, expressed as Apt or Not Apt, does not influence the calculation of the application score.

- Motivation Letter / Portfolio
After completing the 1st step of the application (the online application data), all applicants must duly fill in all the mandatory fields of the Portfolio online.
The portfolio consists of a set of questions related to the following themes: Reasons for choosing FM-UCP; Knowledge about PBL (Problem-based Learning) methodology; Voluntary work; Importance of volunteer work.
- Mini-Interviews
After the 2nd step of the applications (the online portfolio), all applicants will participate in mandatory face-to-face mini-interviews of equal duration in English at the building of Católica Medical School.
These mini-interviews aim to assess whether the applicants have the essential skills required for a medical student and a future doctor.
Required Documentation for the Application
If the applicant is no longer in secondary education, the following documentation is required:
- Passport-type photo;
- Identification Document and Tax Identification Document;
- Certificate/diploma of foreign secondary education, legally equivalent to the Portuguese Diploma. Applicants will need to request an equivalence certificate at the Direção Geral de Educação here.
- Proof of completion of foreign final exams or final year subject exams of the respective foreign secondary education degree, equivalent to the subjects in Portuguese education and/or of the internal exams written at Católica Medical School;
- Proof of English Language Proficiency (Final or Provisional);
- Declaration, under oath, that the applicant is eligible as an "International Student";
- Proof of up-to-date tetanus and diphtheria vaccination.
If the applicant is finishing secondary school, he/she must submit provisional documents, i.e. the grades obtained so far, as well as a prediction of the final grades.
In the 4th step of the application (submission of final documents), the applicants shall insert the final grades and official documents.

The application fee for the integrated Master in Medicine will be €380.00. This amount is not refundable.
