Throughout my project, I had the privilege of immersing myself in the field of obstetrics and gynecology in Cape Verde. The essence of my project was rooted in a deep curiosity about the quality of healthcare provided to women in underserved areas, particularly focusing on maternal and reproductive health.
During my time in Cape Verde, I encountered a myriad of challenges and successes in delivering healthcare in resource-limited settings. From attending consultations to witnessing surgeries and therapeutic discussions, every experience provided invaluable insights into the complexities of healthcare delivery and the human condition.
One of the most impactful aspects of my project was my time spent in the delivery room. Witnessing the birth of a human being was an incredibly profound experience that left a lasting impression on me. Despite the challenges and limitations faced by the hospital, the resilience and strength of the women I encountered were truly inspiring. Their trust in the healthcare professionals providing care underscored the importance of empathy, compassion, and cultural competency in delivering effective and compassionate care.
Overall, my project experience deepened my understanding of global healthcare disparities and reinforced my commitment to making a meaningful difference in the lives of others. I learned the importance of adaptability, resourcefulness, and resilience in navigating challenges and delivering care in resource-limited settings. Most importantly, I gained a newfound appreciation for the privilege and responsibility that comes with being a healthcare professional, and I am eager to continue my journey of learning and service in the field of medicine.
