Católica Medical School invites you to participate in the Seminar on “Host-microbe interactions in Drosophila: from basic science to prevention of human diseasesd”, which will take place on May 18, at 12 pm.

Luís Teixeira is an Associate Professor at the Medical School, Universidade Católica Portuguesa, and a group leader and vice director at Católica Biomedical research Centre. He studied Microbiology and Genetics at Faculdade de Ciências, Universidade de Lisboa, did his PhD research at EMBL, Germany, and has a doctorate in Biomedical Sciences from Faculdade de Medicina, Universidade de Lisboa. Luís did a postdoc at University of Cambridge and is a group leader at Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência since 2009. His group focuses on host-microbe interactions using as a model system Drosophila melanogaster and its viruses, gut microbiota, and intracellular bacteria. He is a member of the European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO) and his research has been supported by grants from FCT, BBSRC, Wellcome, and ERC. Luís is one of the organizers of a biannual international PhD Summer School on Host-Microbe Symbioses and currently coordinates SymbNET, a European Twinning network on Host-Microbe Symbiosis.
