Católica Medical School invites you to participate in the seminar on “Graphene: the new superpower biomaterial for medical applications”, which will take place on February 22th a 12:30 pm at Católica Medical School Multicare auditorium.
Keynote speaker: Quirina Ferreira, PhD
hosted by Paulo Oom
Quirina Ferreira is currently an invited researcher at Nova Medical School and invited professor at Escola Superior de Saúde of Instituto Politécnico de Lisboa. She graduated in Chemical Engineering at NOVA School of Science and Technology, in 2004, and got her Ph.D. in Physical Engineering in 2008 from the same University, working with Professor Paulo Ribeiro and Professor Maria Raposo to develop nanostructured materials for optical data storage applications. During her Ph.D, she collaborated in international projects that allowed her specialization in advanced nanofabrication and nanocharacterization techniques.
After her Ph.D., she initiated a Postdoc at the Instituto de Telecomunicações, in the group of Organic Electronics coordinated by Professor Jorge Morgado, where she held a position from 2008 to 2023. During this period, she got involved in national and international projects mostly related with the development of nanomaterials for electronics and nanomedicine. Namely, she developed a new research line linking nanomedicine to the treatment of ocular diseases. At the moment, she is an invited researcher of Nova Medical School, in the group of Retinal Ageing and Disease and she coordinates a project to develop a new device for glaucoma treatment.
Complementary to her science work, Quirina Ferreira is committed to promote science education. She coordinates 3 courses at the Escola Superior de Saúde of Lisbon related with biophysics and materials engineering.
Beyond the confines of academia, Quirina Ferreira has been actively disseminating science to young minds. In 2021, she specialized in Montessori education, and she promotes educational workshops about nanotechnology for children. By actively engaging young minds, Quirina Ferreira strives to cultivate a new generation of thinkers and problem-solvers who will shape the future of science and technology.
