Committees

WHO - Europe Comittee: Strengthening Health Systems for Alcohol Use Prevention, Treatment, and Recovery — in collaboration with the WHO Europe Evidence into Action on Alcohol (EVID-ACTION) Programme, co-funded by the European Union.

This committee focuses on alcohol-related harm in the European Region, which remains among the highest in the world. Alcohol use is a leading preventable risk factor for diseases, injuries, and premature death, placing a substantial burden on health systems and societies. Delegates will explore strategies to strengthen health systems to prevent, identify, and manage alcohol use disorders, including integrating screening and brief interventions into primary care, expanding access to treatment and recovery services, and implementing evidence-based population-level policies such as pricing, marketing restrictions, and public health campaigns. Delegates will have the unique opportunity to develop practical, evidence-based resolutions and present their work directly to the WHO, contributing to regional policy discussions.

WHO - Crisis: Countering the Rise of Synthetic Drugs - Public Health Emergency of International Concern.

The rapid rise of synthetic drugs, including novel psychoactive substances (NPS) and synthetic opioids, poses a serious and evolving global health threat. These substances often evade international regulation, with constantly changing chemical compositions that challenge traditional control frameworks, strain health systems, and contribute to overdose deaths and links to organized crime. Delegates will examine strategies to strengthen surveillance, improve early warning systems, expand harm reduction, ensure access to treatment, and foster cross-border cooperation, all while balancing public health priorities with human rights principles. This WHO Crisis Committee will be giving delegates the opportunity to respond in real time to emerging drug threats that may become international emergencies. Within a flexible procedural framework, delegates will negotiate, coordinate rapid responses, and design practical, evidence-based interventions, gaining hands-on experience in international public health decision-making and crisis management.
