NERQ Training on Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR)
12 - 14 November 2025
Católica Medical School, Lisbon & Sintra
Organized by Bioethics Institute, Universidade Católica Portuguesa
Coordinated by Mara de Sousa Freitas, with expert trainers from the Network for Education on Research Quality (NERQ)
The NERQ Training on Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) provides researchers with a foundational understanding and a practical approach to the ethical principles and standards that guide the responsible design, conduct and reporting of research. As issues affecting responsible research practices often fall into grey areas, this training will also focus on the dilemmas that researchers experience in their daily work. Participants will be challenged to discuss research cases (fictional or brought by participants) and critical reflect on what it means to be a responsible researcher.
Emerging challenges on RCR (such as the use of AI, open science and reproducibility) will also be addressed during the training.

Overall, this training aims to:
- Set the standards and framework of RCR, building on international guidelines, codes of conduct and policies;
- Foster awareness and critical reflection on the grey areas in RCR;
- Discuss emerging challenges in scientific integrity;
- Promote peer-learning and a mutual foundation of responsible researchers.
