Conditions for Application
 

The Application implies the reading of the Regulation for Access and Admission to the Integrated Master in Medicine of the Católica Medical School at Universidade Católica Portuguesa.

Access Qualifications
 

Applicants Holding Portuguese Higher Education Diplomas 

Students who meet all of the following conditions may apply to the special admissions for degree holders until the deadline for submitting documents and final grades:

a) Be a Portuguese citizen or a citizen of a European Union (EU) country;

b) Hold a Portuguese higher education degree: Bachelor´s (1st cycle), Master´s (2nd cycle), Integrated Master´s (1st and 2nd cycle) or PhD (3rd cycle);
Or
Hold a foreign higher education qualification, obtained abroad and legally equivalent to Portuguese higher education.

c) The Applicant completed the entrance exams, in any year, having obtained, in each of these exams, a score of at least 140 points (0 to 200), namely: 

02 - Biology and Geology 
07 - Physics and Chemistry 
16 – Mathematics; 

Or

Have successfully completed the final exams in the terminal subjects of a foreign secondary education course, equivalent to the subjects of Portuguese education, which can be admitted as entrance exams, having obtained a minimum classification of 140 points (0 to 200) in each of them, namely:

The required entrance exams are considered equivalent to the corresponding Portuguese national exams in accordance to the Deliberation No. 674/2025.

A successful applicant must score a minimum of 140 (0 of 200) in each of the entrance exams, when translated to the Portuguese National grading system.

For the purposes of replacing Portuguese entrance tests, the following tests are not accepted in accordance with the Decree-Law no. 296-A/98: Angola, Brazil, Bangladesh, Colombia, Italy and Sweden.


Prerequisites

  • English Proficiency

Minimum English level C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR), attested by one of the following certificates:
 

a) Cambridge English Exams - Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE) or Cambridge English: Proficiency (CPE) - minimum score of 180;

b) International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic - minimum score of 7;

c) Test of English as a Foreign Language, Internet-based Test (TOEFL iBT) - a minimum score of 94;

d) Aptis ESOL Advanced - British Council: minimum level C1 of CEFR;

e) Satisfaction test carried out at Católica Languages & Translation: minimum level C1 of CEFR;

f) Applicants who provide proof that they have English as their first language or have attended secondary school exclusively in English.

 *Note: You should pay attention to the recommendations for the validity of the exams.

  • Group A - Interpersonal Communication

This prerequisite aims to prove the applicants' interpersonal communication skills.

The medical declaration, attained by completing the form in the following regulation, shall prove the absence of any mental, sensory or motor deficiency that seriously interferes with the functional capacity and interpersonal communication to the point of impairing the applicant's own learning or that of others.

The respective result, expressed as Apt or Not Apt, does not influence the calculation of the application score.

- Of Ranking
 

  • Motivation Letter / Portfolio

After completing the 1st step of the application (the online application data), all applicants must duly fill in all the mandatory fields of the Portfolio online.

The portfolio consists of a set of questions related to the following themes: Reasons for choosing FM-UCP; Knowledge about PBL (Problem-based Learning) methodology; Voluntary work; Importance of volunteer work.

  • Mini-Interviews

After the 2nd step of the applications (the online portfolio), all applicants will participate in mandatory face-to-face mini-interviews of equal duration in English at the Católica Medical School.

These mini-interviews aim to assess whether the applicants have the essential skills required for a medical student and a future doctor.
 



Applicants to the special admissions for degree holders who do not meet the requirement mentioned in point c) of the previous paragraph will be given the opportunity to take written internal exams at the Católica Medical School. 

a) During the application process, each candidate may register for all three internal exams or only for the exam(s) they wish to take; 

b) The internal exams are conducted in English and include the subjects of the entrance exams - national exams of Portuguese secondary education - set for the integrated master in Medicine (programs available on the website of the Instituto de Avaliação Educativa, I.P.), indicated in paragraph b) of the previous paragraph; 

c) Every year, the Católica Medical School offers preparation sessions for the internal exams to applicants who wish to take them.


Required Documentation for the Application 
 

  • Passport-type photo;
     
  • Identification document – Citizen Card or, in the case of other types of identification, the Tax Identification Number must also be provided;
     
  • Academic Degree Certificate, if holding a Portuguese higher education qualification;

    Or
     
  • Foreign Higher Education Degree/Diploma Certificate legally recognized as equivalent to a Portuguese diploma. Recognition must be issued by the Directorate-General for Higher Education or a Portuguese public higher education institution (https://www.dges.gov.pt/pt/pagina/reconhecimento);
     
  • ENES Form (Portuguese National Secondary School Exam Transcript), issued in the same year as the application, if the Applicant holds a Portuguese secondary education diploma;

    And/Or
     
  • Proof of successful completion of the required entrance exams, considered legally equivalent to the corresponding Portuguese national exams, including the grading scale, for applicants holding a foreign secondary education qualification.
     

Notes:

  • The prerequisites are mandatory and are elimination factors, intended for the selection and ranking of applicants, and are only valid for the academic year for which the student is applying. Failure to meet the ranking prerequisites will result in exclusion from the stage of the competition you are applying.
     
  • Original documents/certificates are not required during the application; however, it is mandatory to present face-to-face all original documents submitted in the application process.
     
  • Original documents issued abroad, in accordance with the legislation of the respective country, and documents issued outside Portugal legalized by a foreign civil servant, are considered legalized under Portuguese Law if the signature of the public servant is certified by a Portuguese diplomatic agent or consular officer in the respective State and the signature of that agent is authenticated with the respective consular seal. In cases of documents issued by signatories of the Hague Convention of 5th October 1961, the documents will be legalised by apostille, under the terms of Article 3 of the convention.
     
  • If the documentation to be submitted is in a language other than English, it is imperative that a translation is provided in accordance with the notarial legislation.
     
  • Applicants under this special admission procedure are not eligible for international student status.
