Portuguese dental sleep medicine specialist Susana Falardo, co-coordinator of the Sleep Course at Católica Medical School, has been honored with the 2025 Pierre Robin International Award, the highest recognition granted by the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine (AADSM). The award ceremony took place on May 16 in Las Vegas during the official opening of the AADSM Annual Meeting, where she also assumed office as Chair of the organization’s Scientific Committee.

“The Pierre Robin Award is the highest honor granted by the AADSM to individuals who have made scientific contributions to the field of sleep medicine. I receive it with a profound sense of honor and deep gratitude. Receiving this award is a great responsibility, but at the same time, it gives me strong motivation to continue my path in sleep medicine, drawing attention to the multidisciplinary approach and the important role of dental medicine, while raising awareness, knowledge, and training of qualified dental sleep medicine professionals,” said Susana Falardo.

She added: “This award also represents the recognition of my peers for my scientific, educational, and community work in Dental Sleep Medicine. I am very happy and overwhelmed with emotions, and fully aware of what this distinction means and the responsibility it carries. Alongside the appointment as Chair of the Scientific Committee of the American Academy, I am facing a challenging year that will demand great dedication!”
