David da Silva Dias is a Medical Doctor graduated from the Faculdade Ciências da Saúde da Universidade da Beira Interior. Attained his specialist degree by Ordem dos Médicos as Medical Oncologist 2022, classified among the top specialists of his year. Currently, practices in the Oncology Department at Unidade Local de Saúde Cova da Beira, where he conducts clinical activity and clinical research activities.
He has a Post Graduate degree in Nutrition in Oncology at the Universidade Católica Portuguesa in collaboration with Maastricht University since 2020 and received the title of Competência em Nutrição Clínica by Ordem dos Médicos Association in 2023.
Engaged member of several scientific societies in his area of expertise: SPO – Sociedade Portuguesa de Oncologia, ESMO – European Society of Medical Oncology and SCWD – Society on Sarcopenia, Cachexia and Wasting Disorders.
Currently, he is undergoing a PhD program, working with Professor Paula Ravasco to research and better understand the impact of body composition in the prognosis and toxicities of cancer patients undergoing active treatments and beyond. His innovative project granted him two scholarships throughout his doctoral studies, from the nutrition and medical oncology field. Leading researcher in the validation of a pioneer software to assess body composition using Computed Tomography images, his research promises to change the mindset of dose calculation and adjustment merely based on patients’ weight and body surface. Author and Co-author of original publications and keynote invited speaker in this area of knowledge, including presentations in National and International conferences.
