Well-being and human flourishing as keys to an integrated community intervention with people with dementia

Joana Carrilho da Silva is a project manager and consultant for Social Impact at Instituto Padre António Vieira (IPAV), where she is currently co-coordinating several community intervention projects with informal carers with municipalities. She is also a doctoral student in the area of public policy at ISCTE-IUL. Her doctoral research focuses on the subject of public policies for dementia. She has a master's degree in community development from ISCTE-IUL, having carried out her research on the importance of community development in promoting well-being and quality of life in people suffering from Alzheimer's and other dementias. As a result of her research, in 2021 she published an article in the journal Arxiu d'etnografia de Catalunya: Revista d'antropologia social, entitled "The relevance of local development for the promotion of human flourishing in Alzheimer's disease (Portugal)".
She has been able to participate in the development of various works in the areas of collaboration, integrated governance, community intervention and social impact. She was the executive coordinator and co-author of the collection of six collaborative books developed with the Alentejo Regional Coordination and Development Commission (CCDRA) and the region's Intermunicipal Communities, entitled “Guia Colaborar Faz Toda a Diferença” (2022), co-author of the book “Manual da Teoria da Mudança” (2024) and the Action Plan “Promover o sucesso e reduzir o abandono escolar: Plano de Ação” (2024), and was also the coordinator and co-author of the book "Referencial GovInt para a Intervenção com Cuidadores Informais" (2024), launched at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation,. This book presents a critical analysis of the Statute of Informal Caregivers in Portugal (Law nr 100/2019) and a proposal for action through an integrated community intervention model, based on the govint (integrated governance) methodological cycle, promoting a response that is truly aligned with the needs of the people being cared for and informal caregivers.
In 2023 she was part of the IPAV research team that developed the study “Evaluation of the Impact of the Pandemic in Gaia” and recently she has been able to speak at various seminars and congresses about the work carried out at IPAV, regarding the subject of integrated community intervention with informal caregivers.
