The CBeRa project is transforming biomedical research through complex systems science and the use of digital twins. Funded by the European Commission and based at CBR under the leadership of Prof. Luís M. Rocha, the project examines how biological, environmental, and social factors interact in health and disease.
CBeRa integrates computational modeling, data science, and network theory to create tools that help healthcare professionals translate data into prevention and treatment strategies, promoting a more personalized and preventive medicine.
CBeRa is paving the way for the establishment of the Lisbon Institute for Complex Systems (LxCS), a Horizon Europe Teaming for Excellence project now entering Stage 2 after a successful first evaluation. If awarded, LxCS will collaborate with the Barcelona Supercomputing Centre and Institute for Scientific Interchange (ISI) Turin to develop digital twins that link health, environmental, and urban planning data.
These efforts enhance Universidade Católica Portuguesa’s expertise in computational and systems science, reinforcing Portugal’s position in the European Research Area and advancing data-driven links between health and society.
