Researcher from the Universidade Católica receives medal from the British Society of Parasitology

Sara Silva Pereira has led the Parasite-Vasculature Interactions Laboratory since 2023, integrated into the Católica Biomedical Research Centre, where she investigates how African trypanosomes, parasites responsible for sleeping sickness, interact with mammalian hosts.

Sara Silva Pereira, a researcher at the Católica Biomedical Research Centre (CBR) and lecturer at the Faculty of Medicine of the Catholic University of Portugal (FM-UCP), was awarded the BSP President's Medal, the highest scientific prize for outstanding young researchers in the United Kingdom in the field of parasitology.

This is the second time this distinction has been awarded to a researcher from outside the United Kingdom.

“It is an honor to receive this distinction, which reinforces the relevance of the work we do at CBR and motivates my team to continue exploring the survival mechanisms of trypanosomes,” says Sara Silva Pereira.
