Intended learning outcomes (knowledge, skills and competences to be developed by the students):
The present proposal is for an Elective of Integrated master’s in medicine and has the aim to provide students with a particular interest in upgrading medical formation, knowledge about sleep and its mechanisms as well as how to evaluate sleep patients, focusing on diagnostic and therapeutic interventions in sleep field.
This Elective will focus on basic, clinical, and integrative aspects of sleep knowledge. The basic knowledge component includes physiological basis of sleep, assessment of sleep and sleep disorders, and diagnostic procedures. The clinical knowledge component includes diagnostic and therapeutic approaches of the main sleep disorders in adults and in pediatric ages, and the impact of sleep and sleep disorders in cognitive, mental, physical, and social health. Finally, integrative knowledge components will focus on some specific areas related to sleep and promotion of global health/wellbeing such as nutrition, physical activity, academic and work performance.
