Católica Medical School and CIIS - CatólicaMed invite you to participate in the seminar onparticipate in the seminar which will take place, July 13th at 12 pm at Católica Medical School Multicare auditorium.
Keynote speaker: Hugo Santos, PhD
hosted by Paulo Bettencourt
Hugo Santos graduated in Applied Chemistry from NOVA University Lisbon (Portugal). He completed a joint PhD program in Biochemistry at the NOVA University Lisbon and The Turku Centre for Biotechnology (Finland), mostly dedicated to applications of MALDI-TOF-MS for protein quantification and imaging. Then he took up a post-doc at the University of Vigo, followed by a move to the Institute for Biomedicine and Biotechnology (Barcelona, Spain, 2011–2012) to advance biomedical applications of MS and Imaging-MS. In 2013, he moved to FCT-NOVA (Portugal), where he developed interdisciplinary research using nano-proteomics, supramolecular separation, MS, and computational methods for early detection of pathologies and reliable disease screening. In 2016 he was awarded the prestigious FCT Investigator Starting Grant, where he played a leading role in implementing label-free MS-based quantitative proteomics methods to investigate renal cell carcinoma, bladder cancer, neurodegeneration, and other ageing-related diseases. Since 2019, H.M. Santos has been an adjunct assistant professor at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, and in 2022 he was appointed Senior Research Fellow of (Bio)Chemistry & Omics at LAQV/REQUIMTE.
His research productivity accounts for 86 peer-reviewed international journal articles, 15 peer-reviewed invited editorial publications, 4 conference papers, two published in Laboratory Investigation from Nature (reporting new biomarkers of renal neoplasms), and 5 datasets available at ProteomeXchange. He is the co-author of 4 book chapters and editor of Translational Urinomics, published by Springer-Nature (2021).
