In our efforts to prepare doctors for the future, we must readjust the focus to what has always been the center of the medical calling: the patient. With this goal and practical, contextualized preparation for the challenges of the healthcare world, we can truly educate professionals who promote the physical, mental and social well-being of their patients

On this important annual occasion of World Health Day, it is especially important to reflect on the role of doctors in health and how we prepare them for it. The best-known and most visible role of doctors is to treat illnesses, which is why they are sought out at specific times. However, with the progressive increase in longevity, particularly in the Western world, it is important to take measures to ensure that the longest years of life are as healthy as possible. This will also help to reduce the ever-increasing costs of care, which absorb money that could be used in other fundamental areas.
