Maria João Amorim, Principal Investigator at the Católica Biomedical Research Centre (CBR) of Católica Medical School, has been awarded a €150,000 European Research Council (ERC) Proof of Concept (PoC) Grant to advance the development of a new class of antiviral drugs targeting the Influenza A virus.
The project represents a radical departure from the traditional design of antiviral drugs. Instead of inhibiting enzymatic functions, which viruses can often evade through mutations, our strategy aims to block the physical properties of viral structures. This opens up an entirely new therapeutic modality in the field of antiviral medicine.”
