Ana Bento, an eco-epidemiologist, Faculty member at the Católica Medical School, and Researcher at the Católica Biomedical Research Centre, has written an opinion article analysing the current measles situation in Portugal and the importance of looking beyond national vaccination averages to understand where vulnerabilities to the spread of the virus may persist.

In the article, she reflects on the recent measles cases reported in Portugal, the highly contagious nature of the virus, and how local differences in vaccination coverage can create groups that are more susceptible to infection, even when national vaccination rates remain high.
