Ethics and Health Care

2 ECTS / Semester / English

This CU is of the modular type and precedent of Health Law CU. Ethics and Health Care intends to deepen the main themes of Health Ethics, in addition to the topics addressed in the mandatory CU of Bioethics. It is intended an analysis of sources of Philosophical Ethics in the sense of its rationale for ethical decision in the practice of medicine.

Intended learning outcomes (knowledge, skills and competences to be developed by the students)

  • Discusses the relevance of Philosophical Ethics in the foundation of the practice of medicine;
  • Demonstrates understanding of the application of the principle of respect for human dignity and of life value in the provision of professional health care;
  • Discusses the concept of a human person, respecting his or her integrity and uniqueness;
  • Demonstrates understanding of the relevance of the physician's responsibility to the person attending.
  • Discusses the specificity of the physician's ethical relationship in the specific contexts of mental health, emergency and public health.
