About the Practical Course
Spinal cord injury (SCI) remains a devastating condition with limited therapeutic options. Recent years have seen substantial progress in understanding the pathophysiology of SCI, mainly due to advances in experimental models, ranging from zebrafish to organoids. All of which have provided powerful tools to dissect molecular mechanisms and test therapeutic strategies. With the recent emerging platforms, such as spinal cord organoids to spinal stimulation and CRISPR-based genetic tools in rodents, new avenues for translational research have opened. Despite these advances, many young scientists lack access to standardized, hands-on training in SCI animal models, limiting reproducibility and slowing cross-lab translation. Moreover, this EMBO Practical Course is uniquely designed to standardize protocols, promote best practices, and support early-career researchers working in SCI.
This EMBO Practical Course addresses that gap by providing an immersive, model-spanning experience from in vitro to in vivo, including mouse, rat, and zebrafish systems together with in vitro, in association with clinical relevance and studies. Participants will gain critical technical skills, engage with expert instructors, and explore ethical and translational considerations.
