A group of five students from the Escola Secundária Luís de Freitas Branco, in Paço de Arcos (Oeiras), was awarded an Honorable Mention for Best Poster at BIOFASE III – Congress of Research in Bioengineering in Secondary Education, held on May 27th  in Porto.

The awarded poster, titled “Cell cycle arrest in Trypanosoma congolense”, resulted from an experimental study developed at the Católica Biomedical Research Centre (CBR), under the mentorship of Madalena Rodolfo from the Parasite–Vasculature Interactions Laboratory, led by Sara Silva Pereira, a CBR researcher. The study evaluated the effect of aphidicolin on cell cycle arrest in the parasite Trypanosoma congolense.

The BIOFASE Congress is an event aimed at students and teachers from grades 10 to 12 who develop scientific projects, and is organized by the Escola Superior de Biotecnologia da Universidade Católica Portuguesa, in Porto.
