Católica Medical School invites you to participate in the Webinar on “Obstructive Sleep Apnea and Morbidity”, which will take place on February 3, at 4 pm, online.
In the field of sleep medicine, obstructive sleep apnea has been an area of focus due to the challenges in terms of diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis.
The repetitive and intermittent oxygen desaturations and the exaggerated reaction of the sympathetic nervous system that occur during obstructive sleep breathing events lead to a negative systemic impact, involving various organs and systems, particularly at the metabolic level.
Hypoxia and hypercapnia and the much-mentioned hypoxia load resulting from respiratory events create a cascade of metabolic processes increasing cellular oxidative stress and consequently, the inflammatory process, leading to the disease.
The involvement and consequences of Obstructive Sleep Apnea have been the subject of much research to understand the mechanisms underlying the disease and the associated comorbidities.
Join us for this Webinar where we will discuss the complex mechanisms involving oxidative stress, inflammation, the microbiome, and senescence in understanding the morbidity associated with obstructive sleep apnea.
With the participation of Professor David Gozal (Dean of Joan C Edwards School of Medicine and Vice-President for Health Affairs, Marshall University); Chair in Department of Child Health, University of Missouri).
Moderation: Amélia Feliciano, Susana Falardo and Andreia Cardoso, Coordinators of the Advanced and Postgraduate Sleep Course.
We count on your presence!
