To mark World Brain Day, celebrated on July 22th, Sara Silva Pereira, Head of the Parasite–Vasculature Interactions Laboratory at the Católica Biomedical Research Centre (CBR) and faculty member at the Católica Medical School, has written an article revisiting one of the most remarkable discoveries in the history of science: the identification of the blood–brain barrier. 

"It was through this scientific stumble—driven by the urgent need to treat a tropical disease—that humanity uncovered one of the most fascinating anatomical features of its own existence. After all, knowledge is often built along long and winding paths, much like the intricate pathways of the human brain itself."
