Dentists also play an important role in Sleep Medicine, according to Susana Falardo, a Portuguese dentist who was awarded the 2025 Pierre Robin International Award by the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine.

“Sleep Medicine is a 'big umbrella', which requires a multidisciplinary approach, which also includes Dentistry, which plays a fundamental role in obstructive sleep breathing disorders and sleep movement disorders (such as bruxism).” This is stated by Susana Falardo, dentist and co-coordinator of the Postgraduate Course in Sleep at the Católica Medical School, who was awarded the Pierre Robin International Prize 2025.

The award was given by the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine ( AADSM ), at the same time that the dentist assumes the presidency of the Scientific Committee of the same organization for 2025-2026. “I feel very honored, happy and proud to be able to take Portuguese Dentistry beyond borders”, said Susana Falardo, in an interview with SaúdeOnline.
