Keynote speaker: João Pombo
hosted by Paulo Bettencourt
After completing his degree in biology at the University of Lisbon, João began his journey in microbiology and infection biology with a master’s degree in applied microbiology, choosing mycobacteria–host interactions as the focus of the thesis. Then he obtained a second master’s degree in virus–host interactions from the University of Hong Kong, before returning to Europe—and to bacteriology—to pursue a PhD in Graz, Austria, on bacterial biofilms. Currently, João is a postdoctoral fellow at Umeå University in Sweden, where he studies mechanisms of gene regulation underlying physiological commitments in the human pathogen Vibrio cholerae.
