Diana Aguiar de Sousa, a distinguished neurologist from Portugal, serves as a Neurologist at Lisbon Central University Hospital. Additionally, she holds the position of Professor at the Faculdade de Medicina Universidade de Lisboa and practices neurology at the Center for Cardiovascular Prevention and Thrombosis in Hospital da Luz Torres de Lisboa.
Diana earned her Ph.D. in Neurology from the Faculdade de Medicina, Universidade de Lisboa, showcasing her commitment to the field. Her dedication to research and excellence is further exemplified by her exceptional performance in the Clinical Scholars Research Training Certificate Program at Harvard Medical School and a European Academy of Neurology Research Fellowship in acute stroke at Inselspital Bern, Switzerland. In recognition of her outstanding work, she was honored with the Young Investigator Award from the European Stroke Organization (ESO) in 2016.
Beyond her impressive academic and research achievements, Diana plays key roles in the medical community. She currently serves as the Co-Chair of the Guideline Board at the European Stroke Organisation (ESO) and is an essential member of the Steering Committee for the Implementation of the Stroke Action Plan for Europe. Her international involvement extends to her position as a member of the Clinical Research subcommittee of the American Academy of Neurology (AAN), as well as her roles as an Assistant Editor of Stroke (AHA/ASA journal) and a member of the Editorial Board of the European Stroke Journal and the International Journal of Stroke.
Notably, Diana contributes to the education and development of future medical professionals as a supervisor of several doctoral and master's theses. Her extensive body of work includes authorship or co-authorship of over 100 peer-reviewed papers, including the influential ESO guidelines for Cerebral Venous Thrombosis. Her primary research interests revolve around the implementation of stroke care, Cerebral Venous Thrombosis, and the intersection of stroke and pregnancy.
